Checklist: What you need for your first 3D print
Split
Getting started with 3D printing is exciting—but without proper preparation, it can quickly become frustrating. To help you succeed with your first project, we've put together a checklist to ensure you have everything you need.
1. The right 3D printer
FDM printers (e.g., Bambu Lab or Creality) are particularly suitable for beginners. Keep in mind:
- Easy operation & automatic bed leveling
- Good community & spare parts availability
- Print range that suits your projects
2. Filament
The material is crucial for your results. For beginners, we recommend PLA filament :
- Easy to print
- Large selection of colors
- Environmentally friendly
👉 Tip: Later you can try ABS, ASA or TPU if you need more robust or flexible parts.
3. Print bed & adhesion
A clean print bed is the foundation for perfect results. Even small amounts of dust or grease can prevent your print from adhering properly.
👉 This is how it works reliably:
- Cleaning with isopropanol (IPA) or special cleaners
- If necessary, use adhesion aids such as glue stick or PEI plates
- For extra strong adhesion, we recommend the 3DLC 3D printing spray , which was specially developed for improved bed adhesion and is available in our shop
4. Software (slicer & models)
To help your printer know what to print, you need 3D models in STL format and preparation software (slicer).
- STL files : You don't have to create your own models. There are many free platforms, such as Thingiverse, Printables, or Cults3D , where you can download ready-made templates.
- Slicer software : Programs like Bambu Studio, Cura, or PrusaSlicer convert STL files into G-code that your printer can understand.
👉 Only when you're ready to develop your own designs can you use CAD programs like Fusion 360, Tinkercad, or Blender . However, this isn't required to get started.
5. Tools & Accessories
A few basics will make your work much easier and ensure that you can work quickly and cleanly in your everyday life:
- Side cutters (for filament ends)
- Spatula or magnetic plate for removing prints
- Nozzle cleaning needles for clogged nozzles
- Replacement nozzles and lubricants for moving parts
- Filament dryers or storage boxes against moisture
👉 The Creality sets are particularly practical:
- The Creality Pro 3D Printer Tool Kit, 25-piece, offers you a complete basic equipment with special tools that were specifically developed for 3D printing.
- The Creality 3D printer tool box is an essential accessory for keeping all your tools and spare parts neat and organized. Thanks to its robust construction and dedicated compartments for screws, filament scraps, and accessories, you'll have everything at your fingertips.
6. First prints & test models
Start with small, simple models (e.g., cubes, keychains, or cell phone holders). This is how you learn:
- How your printer reacts
- Which settings work
- How to recognize mistakes early
